Ned Farr’s feature films include, THE AERIALIST, released in the teeth of the pandemic May 2020 (fun!), A MARINE STORY, winner of 20 film festival awards as well as two screenwriting nods, and THE GYMNAST which won 28 awards, including 16 for Best Picture. Farr’s screenplay COASTLINE finished in the top ten of Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Screenwriting Contest, and his TV pilot TIN KICKERS won the ISA Fellowship in 2018. Farr also created the workouts and infomercials for Tony Horton’s P90X fitness program.
Director Statement
I met Mya at a unique dance film residency and was immediately struck by her talent. I then let go of the film idea I was originally planning and instead searched for a story that could combine both Mya’s fierceness and the quiet innocence I saw on display in the workshops we attended. Walking around the streets of Cape Charles gave me the idea, and then things started falling into place—though we were running out of time with the residency schedule. Mya and her collaborator Kelly Bartnik quickly worked on the choreography, then with Alex Naufel our DP, Cat Rider our producer on the second camera, and me recording sound, we all took the last afternoon available to us and shot it. So happy we did!
